Ricoh UK raises £45,000 as part of The Prince’s Trust

‘Million Makers’ fundraising challenge

Proceeds from Ricoh’s ‘More than Hope’ campaign could positively impact the lives of up to 45 young people

NORTHAMPTON, 22 February 2016 - Global technology company, Ricoh has hosted a reception to award £45,000 to its chosen charity, The Prince’s Trust. The event took place at Ricoh’s HQ in Northampton on Friday 19th February, and celebrated a partnership that has lasted nearly four years.

The donation, which was presented to Michael Stickland of The Prince’s Trust by Ricoh Directors Stephen Palmer and Rick Hewitt, comes from Ricoh’s participation in ‘Million Makers’ – an entrepreneurial fundraising challenge which sees teams from different companies across the UK competing to raise £10,000 or more over a period of six months.

Collectively, teams are aiming to raise £1,000,000 to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people around the country.

As part of the challenge, Ricoh employees developed a charitable programme called ‘More than Hope’, which culminated in a special gala dinner in London on the 9th of February.

The initiative was based on research that suggested £1,000 could give one young person the chance to build a better future for themselves and their families, through the programmes that The Prince’s Trust offers. It is estimated that up to 45 young people will benefit from the money raised through Ricoh’s ‘More than Hope’ campaign, which will go towards mentoring and support, career education, and building employability.

Since 2012, Ricoh has developed an innovative relationship with The Prince’s Trust, which has seen its community investment work fully integrated into its leadership and development programmes. ‘Million Makers’ is just one example of this, drawing together future talent from across the business to help them build their essential entrepreneurial skills and assist their learning and development.

Rebekah Wallis, Director of People & Corporate Responsibility at Ricoh UK, said: “The Prince’s Trust ‘Million Makers’ challenge has been an overwhelming success for Ricoh, and we are delighted that our efforts could give 45 disadvantaged young people in the UK access to a better future.

The challenge has also provided multiple benefits to our employees, opening up greater team building opportunities, and allowing them to develop their business awareness and interpersonal skills. As a company committed to sustainable business and corporate responsibility, this sort of integration sits at the heart of everything that we do.”

Michael Stickland, Head of Corporate Partnerships at The Prince’s Trust, said: “We are incredibly grateful for Ricoh UK’s support over the last few years. The More Than Hope ball is the latest in a long line of fantastic fundraising initiatives run by the company. The event raised a phenomenal amount and will make a massive difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people. So a special thank you goes to the team for the highest fundraising total raised by a new team in the Central region of East Midlands, West Midlands and East of England”.
