Half of London Councils have no Bring Your Own Device Policy in place

Ricoh UK, London, 15 June 2017 – Half of London Councils (50 per cent) have no Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy in place, according to new figures from Ricoh UK.

The research, obtained via the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, saw 18 councils respond to the request for information, with nine stating they have no BYOD scheme in place. These were Lambeth, Hounslow, Kingston, Ealing, Hackney, Brent, City of London, Richmond and Bexley.

Nine further Councils responded saying they had schemes in place, with substantial differences in device numbers. Topping the league table was Camden with 423 devices, Waltham Forest with 331, Tower Hamlets with 307 and Islington with 190.

Other Councils released figures showing lower volumes of users with Havering listing 16 devices, Hillingdon 10, Newham 10, Southwark 10 and Royal Greenwich 5.

Commenting on the findings, Chas Moloney, director, Ricoh UK said:

“BYOD schemes allow employees to operate on personal devices of their choice, improving flexibility and inspiring workstyle innovation. This is already happening in many businesses and should be encouraged in local government as part of a wider digital transformation strategy.

It’s time for London Councils to assess and consider implementing BYOD policies to help deliver stronger and more effective public services,” he added.

The full responses revealed a total of 1,302 devices currently registered as in use across London Councils.
