Facebook BANNED by half of British bosses

Social media survey reveals 46 per cent of office workers for companies with 100+ employees have had Facebook banned, whilst 34 per cent have banned Twitter. Snapchat, WhatsApp and Instagram also among those banned by business bosses.
LONDON, United Kingdom: 16th February 2017: Social networking site Facebook is currently banned in 46 per cent of companies, according to a new Censuswide poll of 2,000 British office workers from companies with 100+ employees commissioned by technology company, Ricoh UK.

Microblogging site Twitter also topped the list of forbidden social tools, with 34 per cent saying it was banned in their office. Content sharing site Instagram also ranked highly with 31 per cent saying it was banned in the workplace

Other tools on the banned list include Snapchat by 31 per cent of organisations, and instant messaging service WhatsApp banned by 29 per cent of companies.

Despite blanket bans on increasingly important social tools, 44 per cent of workers said they believe that social networks and collaboration technologies will help improve employee workplace relationships.

Chas Moloney, director, Ricoh UK - who ‘unbanned’ Facebook for all his 2,500 employees comments:

“Outlawing sites like Facebook demonstrates a draconian approach to social media and prevents the next generation from working with tools which form a key part of their daily lives.”

Blanket bans on social networking services should now be overturned with these platforms integrated, allowing employees to develop their own unique digital workstyles,” Moloney concluded.

The poll also revealed that only 15 per cent said they considered the current use of tech by their company as excellent, with 44 per cent saying it was ‘good’ and 32 per cent saying it was ‘average’.

Separately, 46 per cent of respondents said they would like to see wearable devices equipped with health apps added to their employee package.
