Our responsibility towards the environment

How we contribute to a sustainable society

We place tremendous importance on reducing the environmental impact of our operations, building a sustainable future and helping our customers do the same. That’s why we have set clear sustainability targets that align to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris agreement.

Our environmental efforts include the following areas

Customer Centric

Net zero emissions by 2050

We are actively pursuing a strategy to reach net zero emissions by 2050. In the short term, we aim for a 63% reduction in direct emissions and a 40% reduction of indirect emissions by 2030.
Ethics and Integrity

Creating a truly circular economy

In 1994, we developed the Comet Circle™– our blueprint for a truly sustainable business. This guides activity across our entire supply chain and sets out how all raw materials are used, re-used, remanufactured or recycled.

Converting to renewable energy sources

We have committed to ensuring that 50% of our electricity usage comes from renewable sources by 2030. We also aim to use 100% renewable electricity at all major sites by 2030.

Supporting our customers to be more energy efficient

Our digital services help organisations to become more energy efficient. By promoting hybrid workstyles and workplace optimisation, we help our customers reduce their footprint, maximise resources and drive productivity.
Passion

Energy saving features as standard

Our products are designed to be as energy efficient as possible. Our multifunction printers are programmable to turn off outside working hours, and other products feature sensors to sleep and wake up automatically when users need them.
Winning Spirit

Increasing recycling in the product life cycle

100% of the plastics we use for packaging are recyclable. All paperboard packaging contains at least 80% recovered fibre content, and all corrugated fibreboard contains at least 25% recovered fibre content. We also re-use approximately 10,000 packaging boxes each month and our toner bottles are created from recycled plastic.
Customer Centric

Redesigning products and processes

Our commitment to the environment spans every aspect of how we manufacture our products. Changing our shipping patterns helped us achieve a 92 tonne CO2 reduction. We also have redesigned our products to reduce their physical footprint and raw material requirements.

Carbon Reduction Plan

We have set strategies to achieve Ricoh UK’s 2050 Net Zero target.
 
Our carbon reduction plan, prepared in response to the requirements of the Policy Procurement Notice 06/21 set by the UK government, outlines Ricoh UK’s approach to the baseline and current emissions footprint reporting. It also provides information on our emission reduction target and ongoing carbon reduction projects.
